Focus of work:

Aircraft industry, aviation and armament in the 20th century; family businesses and business history; history of German mechanical engineering, history of nutritional physiology; history of Upper Silesia. Over one hundred university courses on German, British and American social and economic history of the 18th - 20th centuries.


Curriculum vitae:

born 1961. 1981 - 1987 studied at the Universities of Bonn, Bochum and Warwick (UK): economics, mathematics, social sciences, but above all history. 1987 Master of Arts (University of Warwick). 1996 Doctorate (Dr. phil.) from the Faculty of History at the Ruhr University Bochum. Since 1990 lecturer at the same university, since 2000 senior lecturer appointed to retirement. 2010 and 2019 visiting professor at Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, Michigan, USA. Winner of the Werner-Hahlweg-Award for Military History 1998 (for the dissertation). Co-founder and long-standing member of the board of the Arbeitskreis für kritische Unternehmens- und Industriegeschichte (Association for Critical Business History). 2004/2005 Member of the expert commission "Technology and Responsibility" of the Hanseatic City of Rostock. Since 2017 member of the expert advisory boards "Historical Aviation 1918-1945" and "Historical Aviation until 1918" of the Deutsches Museum, Munich. Since 1987, participation in and management of numerous research projects, including the history of rationalisation in the interwar period, the history of arms conversion, the history of the German-German economy, the history of fuel synthesis, the history of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the history of Deutsche Lufthansa AG and other companies.
